Would you like to request a long-term volunteer or Task Force worker for your organization? The following six steps will guide Seventh-day Adventist organizations within the North-American Division through the process of creating a service request through Adventist Volunteer Service. If your organization is located outside the NAD, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator for your Division.

Download our LONG-TERM MISSIONS MANUAL for a complete guide on requesting and accepting Task Force volunteers.

1. Request Password

If this is your first time your organization has requested a volunteer, you will need an account created on the Adventist Volunteer Service (AVS) database website. To start an account, please complete the Request Form, and we will create an account for you. It may take a few days before you are notified that you have access since your account will need to be approved by the General Conference AVS team. For questions or updates, contact Benjamin Speegle.

2. Create service Request

Log in to the AVS website with your username and password, and create your Service Request(s) on behalf of your organization. You will be notified if changes need to be made to your Service Request before it can be approved and posted on the AVS website for potential volunteers to view and apply. For questions, contact Benjamin Speegle.

3. Screen Volunteers

Once your Service Request has been approved and posted on the AVS website, volunteer applicants will be screened and approved by our office before their applications are sent to you.

4. Accept Volunteers

Once you have received a volunteer's application, you can review it and contact the volunteer for an interview if you wish. When your organization has made a decision, you may accept or deny the applicant using the AVS database.

5. Purchase Insurance

Volunteers from U.S.A. or Canada

If you are requesting a volunteer who is from U.S.A. or Canada, your organization should purchase Task Force Insurance from Adventist Risk Management through the ARM Travel Hub. New users to the Travel Hub will need to create an account.

Volunteers from Other Countries

If you are requesting a volunteer who is from outside U.S.A. or Canada, you will need to purchase Short-Term Travel (Plan B) from Adventist Risk Management through the ARM Travel Hub. New users to the Travel Hub will need to create an account.

For more information regarding either of these insurance plans, please speak to an Insurance Specialist by contacting:

ARM Customer Care Service

6. Communicate

Volunteers from U.S.A. or Canada

Please send us the evidence of Task Force insurance coverage for your volunteer(s) after you purchase it. This clears us to give final approval for the volunteer's assignment.

Volunteers from Other Countries

There are a few more steps to take if you are inviting volunteers from other countries. After you have accepted the volunteer(s), we will need an email from you acknowledging your responsibility for the following:

  • You will provide visa instructions to the volunteer. (Our office can help if needed).
  • You will communicate with volunteer regarding visa progress and approval.
  • You will request and receive travel itinerary from volunteer.
  • You will purchase Short-Term Travel (Plan B) insurance for volunteer. (See section 5.)
  • You will email volunteer's travel itinerary and proof of Short-Term Travel (Plan B) insurance to Andrea Keele.
